The old Kitchen God has been working tirelessly across the centuries to protect Chinese traditional values and practices. However, the trendy Jade Emperor has grown bored of the ancient ways the Kitchen God holds himself to, and wishes to try out new things ranging from everyday food to activities done during festivals. The Jade Emperor commands the reluctant Kitchen God to learn the modern approaches from the living before he gets replaced by a younger god. With his job on the line, the Kitchen God departs on a learning journey, seeking out mentors who guide him on contemporary practices of Singapore culture, given the nation’s relative youth, and imparts his own knowledge of older traditions and origins of certain customs to the civilians in the process.
